Happy April! This month, we are celebrating Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If it weren’t for this pandemic, coronavirus, I am sure most of us would be preparing for this holiday and festivities with family, friends, and loved ones. This is a crucial time not only for our country, but the entire world. The coronavirus has affected almost all aspects of life — from school to work. While many of us cannot help but only see the negative effects of this virus, there are also some positive effects. It is important to assess the situation with a silver lining. Some of these effects include being able to work on one’s overall health, spending quality time with family, and appreciating people in our family. With this in mind, let’s hear from our four featured college students on their thoughts of the virus and their dreams. If you’d like to be featured, please email me at tejerokayla@gmail.com.

Casey Bala says: “I aspire to make a difference in others’ lives since I have a passion for creating bonds like no other. After graduation, I strive to continue to exceed my expectations and put in all my dedication and hard work into earning the degree of becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I aim to make my Filipino parents incredibly proud of the person I have grown to become. With regards to coronavirus, I believe that it is damaging our mental health in several aspects such as triggering anxiety, fear, and depression. Let’s not forget to be kind and have respect for others through this tough time.”

Kelvin Laroscain says, “I would like to earn my nursing degree and continue my education towards becoming a CRNA. I would also like to set an example for my children to work hard and chase their dreams. With regards to the virus, it’s a scary thing and it’s crazy that it’s something we have to live through in our lifetime. I’m just very anxious and cautious about the virus and I’m hoping a cure is found for it soon.”

Fiona Marie Delfinado Agapito says, “I hope to be very successful in the career of my dreams! My parents sacrificed their dream careers so that my brother and I could have a better future. It’s extremely important for me to graduate and become an Interior Architect. I hope to be successful and to make my parents proud. With regards to the coronavirus, it’s a very frightening period right now. It is important to support and remain kind to each other, put aside our selfish desires, and to do what is in everyone’s best interests.””

Cassandra Buhawe says, “I want to be able to hone the lessons and techniques I’ve learned and apply them into practice after graduation. I want to expand my knowledge on other subjects — not only Nursing. For example, I want to start my own business one day. With regards to the coronavirus, this pandemic is not only a wake-up call to political leaders, but to the entire world. We must unite as a community, as human beings, to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
