Elazegui Family Reunion in Chicago Catherine Crowley Park Glenview – August 10, 2019

The Elazegui Family Reunion 2019 was chaired by Liza Samson-Elazegui and Norma Elazegui- Amar, in-law Elazegui tandem that worked cohesively together, last Saturday, August 10, 2019 at The Catherine Crowley Park in Glenview, Illinois.

The success of the reunion inspired the group to plan another celebration in Boston, MA to celebrate the 100 years naturalization of the Elazegui pioneer, Mauro Alviar Elazegui, who came to America 100 years ago. The 4th and 5th generation kins are preparing and choosing who will chair next year’s Elazegui Reunion in Boston, MA.

The first Elazegui to set foot in America was Mauro Alviar Elazegui, (Chicago’s Rey Elazegui’s father), who joined the U. S. Navy in 1915 at age 19. Known as “Itong Marino”, in Calamba, Laguna, he arrived in San Francisco, CA on November 01, 1917 on the USS New Jersey. His naturalization date is June 14, 1920 in Boston, MA. The second Elazegui to come to America was Isabel, fresh from UST College of Medicine. It was through her efforts that the Elazegui family had a chance to emigrate to U.S. The “Elazegui Exodus” started in 1978 with Emmanuel (Manny) leading the pack, followed by Mauro, Jr., Reynaldo and Antonino.
