In a recent study conducted by Owlet Baby Care – the maker of the award winning Smart Sock – the company discovered parents are having babies at an older age in the city of Chicago and as a result babies are smaller in weight than the state average.

Additional stats include:

Average age of parents at birth in Illinois is 29, which is also the national average.

Average age of parents at birth in the city of Chicago is 33

Average birthweight is 7.12 lbs in the city of Chicago

Average birthweight is 7.37 lbs in the state of Illinois

Babies that are born at a lower birthweight may be more inclined to health problems. That said, baby care products like the Smart Sock are perfect, as they can offer peace of mind to parents who are concerned about their child’s well-being because of a lower birthweight. The Smart Sock is made to track baby’s heart rate, oxygen levels and sleep and can alert parents if their child is out of the Owlet ‘safe zones’.
