Bereavement Note: Florencio Villegas, early FACC Board member and friend to Fil Am Community

FLORENCIO VILLEGAS died October 1, 2017, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

A private service was held in Tennessee and a memorial service was held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Glendale Heights, Illinois on Oct. 21. He and his wife Lita Raymundo were former Bloomingdale, IL residents. A luncheon for friends was served at the Mabuhay Restaurant in Glendale Hts., IL, after the memorial service/

A native of Tarlac City, Philippines, Flo, as he was affectionately known to us all, grew up as a teen-ager in the South Side of Chicago. He was an early founding Board member of the Filipino American Council of Greater Chicago and contributed to the purchase of the Rizal Community Center. Flo was a good friend to the Fil Am community, including Alex Gonzales, FACC’s second president and current Board Chair, and Bob Mittenthal, current FACC Chair-Elect.

Florencio “Flo” Villegas served as the Precinct 34 committeeman of the Bloomingdale Democratic Organization; president of the Lions Club; vice president of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation; past chairman of the American Society For Quality (ASQ); commissioner of the U.S. Senator Dixon’s Asian-American Advisory Board; member of the Illinois Economic Board Small Business Committee; Board member of Home Owner’s Association; as well as member of various Filipino-American Organizations.
