Marcelito Pomoy, Pinoy Singing Sensation

The singer grew up in the Philippines and he lived on the streets from a young age, earning the equivalent of a dollar per day. He said he’s been singing since he was 7 years old, but it wasn’t until he turned 18 that he realized he could make a career out of it.

Marcelito is unique in that he can sing in both a male tenor voice and a female soprano voice. Because of this, he’s able to perform popular male-female duets without a partner. Not only does he sing both high and low parts, but he switches back and forth between them seamlessly. Famous performances from him include “The Prayer” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Marcelito was named the winner of Pilipinas Got Talent Season He released his fi rst album, Duet Yourself, in 2011. It featured covers of “The Prayer,” “Let the Love Begin,” and “Forever.” Then in 2013, he released a second album called Split, which featured several songs in Filipino.

Pomoy received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” after he performed the duet “The Prayer” singing both the male and female parts.

Before his performance, Pomoy, who was accompanied by his wife, told judge Simon Cowell he was there to win the competition. After his powerful performance, Cowell gave Pomoy a perfect score of 10.

“That was what I call a 10, a simple as that. I have a feeling that the super fans will put you through to the next round,” Cowell said. “That was so unique, you are a beautiful, wonderful singer with a young woman trap inside of you,” added Howie Mandel. Judges Alesha Dixon and Heidi Klum also praised Pomoy’s unique performance. “I want to see something different, something unique and Marcelito you just gave that to us. It was absolutely brilliant,” Dixon said. “Honestly, this is one of the craziest things I ever heard in my entire life. Your voice, your range, your sound is just so out of this world,” Klum shared.

Pomoy was first recognized abroad for his “golden female voice” when he appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2018. Last year, he was able to meet his idol, Celine Dion, through DeGeneres.
