Happy Hearts Day!

We are already on the second merry month of the year 2020! It has been an exciting year so far. Personally, I started off this year with my second semester of school. I have new subjects, and most of them are heavy that I need to invest more time on studying hard. The second month this year is very special, as we celebrate Valentine’s Day on the fourteenth! For those who have been through this yet, including myself, we have so many questions: why is it important to fall in love? Who do we pick? What if we do not like the other person? Surely, I love celebrating heart’s day. So for this month, here are my four special young Fil-Ams who expressed their hopes and dreams in my column! Mariel Martinez says: “As a Filipino American student, one of my main goals for college is to graduate with a BSN degree. I have always been fascinated in the medical fi eld, so after graduation I hope to advance my career by getting a Master’s degree after gaining enough experience. It would be a great opportunity to be able to serve my community, while doing the job I love.”

Isabel Ksel says: “As a Filipino American college student, I want to be friendly and have a positive infl uence on the lives of my peers while in school. I also want to earn my BSN so I can then work, for a living in the healthcare fi eld, and help others after graduation.”

Agape Montero says: “I aim to fi nish school strong and find myself in a place where I am happy after graduation. To encourage my future children and other people who’ll look up to me, I want to inspire them to strive to become the best for themselves, not just for anyone else. With our culture it’s so easy to be who our communities want us to be, but even so, it’s important to do what makes you happy. I think it’s important to work to live, not live to work.”

Myah Vlahogenis says: “As a Filipino American, my goal is to maintain good grades and make my parents proud. My ultimate goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse. I want to cherish my roots, and continue to learn about the Filipino culture as I grow.”
