New Year 2017, New President, New Hopes, New Dreams

As of deadline and in meeting the first issue of the year 2017, the country is preparing for a smooth historical transition of our presidents, outgoing Barack Obama and incoming new 45th President of the United States of America, Donald W. Trump.

President Obama believes in the power of the social media, saying, “We are moving into an era where a lot of people get their information through tweets and sound bites and some headline that comes over their phone. And I think that there’s a power in that. There’s also a danger, what generates a headline or stirs up a controversy and gets attention isn’t the same as the process required to actually solve the problem.” He says he has very few regrets and is proud of the things he was able to change.

Meanwhile, President-elect Trump is quite emphatic in creating more jobs and promises health insurance for all upon assumption of his office. His winning speech after the much-heated election was, “I will work hard to unite our country and be the President of all Americans. Together, we will make America great again.” By the way, he is also a social media person and a heavy tweeter.

Don’t we find the month of January to be a time for hibernation, time for vacation, time for resolutions to become a new us, after heavy Christmas holidays partying, shopping, and/or just plain indulging? Many VT staffers have scurried away to better and warmer climes just to avoid the harsh Chicago winter, like Girlie Pascual (GMail) to California, Melody Dizon (Health Matters) and her family, to the Philippines, Rev. Nancy Abiera (On a Bright Side) to Florida, Jovie Calma (Wassup?) to Disneyland in California, Prof. Robert Boyer (Philippines) to Washington, DC, Victoria Smith (Warrior’s Heart), to her beautiful and elegant home in Monterey, California, and some took a break to seeking solace to their favorite secret hideaways.

Speaking of new year’s resolutions, aren’t we all eager beaver in making one or two in meeting the new year so we can claim that we are a new US or ME? For a reality check, and the sad truth is, we fail with our resolutions after the first month. We just can’t stick to our goals, do we?

I am excited to report that I will be interviewing on CPRTV a Life Coach, Betty Soblech, Betsy Sobiech, who is also a Global Leader at Tiara International, and has the secrets to how to make sure our resolutions actually stick.

With a Master’s in Organization Development and a specialist in change management, including personal behavioral change, she has worked with dozens of people to not only make sure they stick to resolutions, but ongoing commitments that help with positive life change.

Will share with you in our next issue about Betsy’s secret to stick-to-itivenss to resolutions.

Warmest thank you’s to our dear friends and bff’s Don & Flor Kramer for celebrating with us a most remarkable new year’s welcome celebration at Tuscany’s Italian restaurant. Happy birthday to Don (Jan 24), who’s currently on vacation in the Philippines with Flor this time. Sharing the fun new year pictures with you here.

It grieves our heart to report about the passing of a dear friend, Ricardo (Ricky) Yonzon Calma, father of our Columnist Jovie Calma, who succumbed to death as we were meeting our deadline. Viewing will be held at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle, IL. 60172. We feel the sadness of the Calma family over the loss of their beloved Ricky, and prayers and condolences come from the whole staff of VT/CPRTV.
