We Make a Difference

As we were faced with press work in meeting our January deadline, the sad news about the Taal volcano eruption in the Philippines shattered the trends of our thoughts temporarily. We immediately tried to contact friends and loved ones and searched for network and social media news for the latest developments every hour on the hour as we went on in trying to finish our media work. We, the Via Times family, pray for the safety of the residents of Taal and its neighboring Batangas towns affected by its volcano’s spewed ashes, and we are mobilizing to send help to the victims. Please read the Pinoy News on page 34 on Taal Volcano eruption reports and history from the Philippines.

Though it’s now the new year 2020, we still feel kind of feeling intoxicated from the greatest news of the year as we were bidding goodbye to the old year 2019… with the great news that Via Times Newsmagazine is the winner of the 2019 Best Print Newsmagazine on Migration Advocacy. How much more elated can we be? Sharing with you the various reactions of happiness and sense of pride received from the VT staff, on Vibes column, page 5; they are the minds, bodies and souls of our media success. Congratulations and thank you to all of you! Also, don’t forget to read friends’ new year’s messages on page 6 Letters.

Our Holiday message of truth, peace and dedication still goes on, and can be felt in our editorial piece written by Joe Mauricio, complemented by his Objectively Harsh column on page 22.

VT’s Person of the Year on our cover is a familiar face with the many Chicago party-goers. Lindy Tan’s beautiful life story is so inspiring, as he was not deterred by life’s difficulties since birth. He persisted in his pursuit of happiness, and did not let any outside negativities fail him. Enjoy reading our cover story about Lindy Tan on pages 36-37 of this issue.

As you can glean from the features and pictorial pages in this first issue of the year, more parties abound in welcoming the new year, so enjoy reading and perusing each and every picture and article that will give you heartwarming enjoyment amid the cold winters of Chicago. Welcome back to the following columnists from their enjoyable holiday respites…Girlie Pascual, Melody Dizon, Jan Paul Ferrer (one of last visitors of Taal Volcano last December), Pureza Pacis, Prof. Robet Boyer, Attorney Janice Dantes, Louella Cabalona (still in PH & Hanoi), Elsie Sy-Niebar (still in Australia, and missed her column).

Congratulations to the new officers and committee members of the Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) in their kick-off event for the larger June gala celebration for the commemoration of the Philippine Independence 2020.

Keep on reading and enjoying this VT special January issue. The strength of marketing VT is always an inverse proportion to the quality of the product we produce, as we love to say and believe in our credo. We concentrate on the quality and results of the product, as can be gleaned on the exciting original articles of your favorite columnists. VVL ###
