In pursuits of its goal to promote Filipino culture and embrace Filipino’s rich heritage, the Santacruzan Group of Greater Chicago will host a Santacruzan, & Cultural Fashion Show 2022. This is a dinner-show, and will be held at the grand Ashton Place, 341 75th St., Willowbrook, IL, on April 2, 2022. The group is a non-profit, cultural organization that carries the tradition of organizing Santacruzan parade in the month of May.

The group is proud to have been recognized by the City of Bolingbrook because of its festive display of Filipiniana outfits worn by younger Filipino Americans during its annual parade. The group had also joined parade in the main streets of downtown Chicago.

Jun Turija, who co-founded the group with his wife, Joanne, said, “We have have been organizing the Santacruzan parade here in the Bolingbrook area, and our goal this year is to launch this Fashion Show. It will be a showcase of Filipino traditional costumes created by our talented designers back in the Philippines. We are also raising funds for our group’s main Santacruzan Parade which is scheduled in May 2022.”

Jun and wife, Joanne, also added that “we have made a lot of sacrifices and had reached out for support from community members. We were thankful to those who responded positively to help in this event! It is so inspiring to see the unity that this event had brought us! This is the first fashion show of its kind to happen in the suburbs of Chicago. We take pride in providing this opportunity for the community to learn and appreciate our Filipino culture.”

The fashion show will feature 20 young models from the Filipino American community in Chicago. Heading the list are Kayla Tejero who is a FilAm singer and columnist writer of the award-winning The Via Times Newsmagazine. Another featured model is Abby Turija who is a former Miss PIWC and Reyna Elena of Santacruzan.

The fashion show will also highlight the original creations of Iloilo’s best designers Tata Pinuela and Jeomel Lamparero Jaleco. The designs, fabrics and colors of the featured outfits reflect the Iloilo’s rich history. This is definitely a show to watch and remember!

The fashion show has gained a lot of support from FilAm families in the Kankakee and Joliey area. The group’s spiritual adviser is Rev. Fr. Sunny Castillo. For tickets and additional information on this event, please call the organizers, Jun and Joanne at 815 272 3759 or 815 272 3715.
