Fil-Am Community Leader

Congratulations and well done to Fil-Am Lorna Tippett who completed the Chicago Police Department’s Community Academy on December 6, 2022. Lorna was nominated by the CPD’s northwest side 16th District to attend the 10-week interactive-overview of what it takes to be a Chicago Police Offi cer. Already involved in community outreach at her church, Faith Family Worship Center and a Senior Chaplain with Chaplain Fellowship Ministries, Lorna saw that attending the community academy as an opportunity, and a challenge to grow her ministry. According to Lorna, the weekly 3-plus hour classes took commitment, but it was well worth it. “The topics were interesting and the time fl ew”, she said.

Lorna is from Mabalacat, Pampanga where in 2007 she helped found a church plant, Mawaque Alliance Church, that continues to grow to this day. She is also known in the Chicago-Filipino community for her generosity in supporting religious and philanthropic causes.

Next for Lorna is the Citizens Emergency Response Team, “CERT”. Classes are coming up in the spring and address the reality that in 2023, the average citizen, that is you and me, are the new fi rst responders and we need to know how to be equipped to help ourselves, as well as our brothers and sisters in times of crisis.

Now, that is leading from the front!
