FR. SUAREZ’S Chicago Healing Mission Trip Was Called Off

Very popular Filipino Healing Priest Rev. Fernando Suarez’s scheduled visit and services in Chicago last July 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish Church and July 11 at St. Eulalia Parish Church in Maywood, IL. was suddenly and mysteriously aborted that made many people (including us) left wondering as to what actually happened. We had solicited for an exclusive interview through Fr. Suarez’s coordinator, a Mr. Manny Abalos from Rockford, IL, weeks before his Chicago arrival, but a days before and during his arrival, and after his departure, we had never received any replies to our insistent calls and emails to Mr. Abalos. Things were eerily quiet about Fr. Suarez’s whereabouts, until a friend called us on deadline time reporting to us what allegedly had happened. To make the story short due to lack of space, it was a matter of church politics that originated in the hierarchy of Philippine Bishops that extended its ugly political hands to the Archdiocese of Chicago, allegedly prohibiting Fr. Suarez to perform his healing ministry here in Chicago. Curiosity drove us to search online for Fr. Suarez’s background story versus the Philippines’ Catholic Church hierarchy. Briefly, from the Inquirer, “a deal between San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez to build a “mega-shrine” to Mother Mary with a statue that would be taller than the 30-meter-high Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro has collapsed, the Inquirer has learned. SMC’s concerns about the management of the project and financial issues involving the priest’s Mary Mother of the Poor (MMP) Foundation derailed what on paper was supposed to be a one-of-a-kind project rivaling some of Christendom’s grandest religious sanctuaries. The shrine was to be called “The Healing Center of the Blessed Virgin Mary at MonteMaria.” SMC and the MMP apparently dissolved their agreement on the donation located in SMC’s 125-hectare property.

“The deal is off,” said a source familiar with SMC’s side of the issue, pointing to provisions of the agreement that required the MMP to construct the church within five years of receiving the property donation.” Fr. Suarez’s “miracle cures” could just do so much against the embroiled controversy with alleged interferences from the archdiocese’s higher-ups in Manila and bishops of the Philippines. Well, we were told that Fr. Suarez held mass at a park while he was here attended by some of his followers and supporters.
