Chicago’s Singer Kayla Tejero Turns 18

2019 is truly a phenomenal year for Kayla. As she turned 18 this year (June 19, 2019), this young woman truly serves as a source of inspiration in the Filipino American community. From a young and adorable kid she was, she grew up beautifully in the care of her loving parents: Ryan and Pressian Tejero. Kayla is currently one of the most sought-after singer and performer in the Filipino American community in Chicago and the Midwest. Kayla’s desire to sing and perform in front of various audiences, started when she was age 10. Blessed with a beautiful voice, and a captivating charm while performing, Kayla has won the confi dence of numerous charity events and singing competitions.

Kayla’s wide range of musical genres include Arianna Grande, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Andra Day to the legendary Etta James and Dusty Springfi eld. Kayla believes that “everyone has a God-given gift. Mine is singing, and I just want to share it with everyone!”

Kayla’s long list of key performances include: Front Act for Father and Son (Piolo and Inigo Pascual) 2019 US Concert Tour at the Copernicus Theater; First Place, Summer Sunset Talent Competition in Lake in the Hills, First Place, Roots Aurora Talent Contest; 3rd Place, Illinois State Talent Competition; Filipino Fiesta in Iowa; Piyesta Pinoy sa Chicago; Chicago’s Gintong Pamana Awards; Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame Awards, Chicago’s Philippine Independence Day Celebration, and Lead Artist at the HFCC Gospel Concert. Her youtube videos had given her a spot in private auditions of America’s Got Talent and The Voice.

In the pipeline, Kayla is preparing to perform as front act for the major concert of Philippines’ top entertainers Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez at the Copernicus Theater on September 6, 2019. She is also scheduled to do a front act and perform with the London-based stage actress and UK’s The Voice Finalist Irene Rhodes on August 10, 2019 at the Hilton in Northbrook, IL.

With a well-sought after talent and her heartfelt desire to help build the Fil-Am community stronger, Kayla had crossed the borders of Chicago to perform. She has graced charity events in Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, and in Toronto, Canada.

Recognizing her outstanding achievements in music performance, Kayla is a recipient of various distinctions and honors from other community organizations: 2019 PIWC Outstanding Youth Awardee in Music & Entertainment, 2018 Most Beautiful Filipino Award by IPEN Toronto; 2017 Phenomenal Woman Award by Boys2Men – City of Aurora, IL, and 2015 Most Outstanding Volunteer Award by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations in Columbus, Georgia.

Kayla recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from high school. She is going to Aurora University this Fall, with the University’s Top Board of Trustee Scholarship worth $60,000 towards her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. Kayla says, “I am truly blessed and thankful to God for the gift of singing and entertaining. And, I am so grateful to my parents – Ryan and Pressian Tejero – for all the years of love, support and life-coaching moments. I am not who I am without both of them. Thank you – Mom and Dad – for all the beautiful life experiences!”
