Summer, Sunshine, and Me!

Happy summer! This month marks half of the year passing by. Children are finishing up school, people are going on vacation, and, in general, families are enjoying the summer. This summer is different from last summer and the summer prior. We are no longer forced to stay at-home and some businesses do not require us to wear masks. I think that it is safe to say we are working towards a sense of normalcy. Personally, I am enjoying the summer by working at my part-time retail job, and going on trips with friends and family. I spent Memorial day weekend in Corpus Christi. It was so relaxing to spend time at the beach and be in a state of complete relaxation. Despite the extremely hot and humid weather, it was nice to take a true break from the demands of life. Sometimes, we all need a moment to close our eyes and take a deep breath. As the state of the pandemic continues to progress towards what life was like prior to the very start, we should all take this time to relax and live in the moment. If there is anything I have learned throughout this year, it is to live every day as if it were my last. As cheesy as it sounds, we are not guaranteed tomorrow so we should live each day to the fullest. Let us hear from our featured college students!

Raine Mace Quinones says, “As a Filipino college student, I aim to challenge myself academically and to be involved with various clubs and organizations. I hope to impact others by furthering my education and using that knowledge to give back to the community. With this in mind, I aspire to become an exceptional nurse practitioner.”

Brigitte Cariño Cueter says, “While in school, I would like to pursue many of my interests and join numerous extracurriculars and maintain leadership positions in them. After college, I hope to work with aspects of marketing as a healthcare administrator in a well known hospital, and I would like to share and establish some of my visions for the better future of public health.”

Maya Leighton says, “What I want to accomplish as an Filipino-American is to be a successful marketing business woman. Not only do I want to be successful job wise, but after I graduate I want to have a family. I want my kids to look up to me and see they can do anything they want and they don’t have to stick to career norms of Filipino culture.

Daniel Enriquez says, “I honestly want to make the most out of my college experience. I want to meet new people and make new connections. I especially want to be able to pass with grades that I’m happy with and that will make my parents proud as well.”
