Chicago’s Fil-Am Teen Singer, Kayla Performs at the 2nd Philippine American Friendship Dinner

This year’s Philippine American Friendship Dinner Event proudly presents the Outstanding Senior Citizens of Michigan. They will be chosen from various fields and will be recognized for their exemplary life achievements. State Chairperson of the US Pinoy for Good Government or USP4GG, Willie Dechavez told reporters in an interview that “We are so excited about this year’s event, as we will honor our senior citizens in the highlights of their personal endeavors but also in community involvement.” Willie added, “I would like to thank all the committee members, who sacrificed their time and resources in planning this event and making sure that this is going to be a star-studded, well-attended and a memorable event for all the attendees.” This year’s fundraising event will benefit the advocacies of USP4GG Michigan.

There will be celebrities and high-profile community figures who will grace this event. This year’s featured performer is a well-sought after talent from Chicago. She is an avid community volunteer and loves to share her God’s gift of singing. Prepare to be blown away by this beautiful teen vocalist from Chicago, Kayla Tejero.

Kayla is 16 years old, and a Junior at Yorkville High School. She started singing at the age of 5. Kayla’s passion in singing grew from nowhere but out of joining her school choirs and musicals.

At age 12, she won her first open talent competition at the Aurora’s Got Talent in Aurora, IL. The following year, she ended up winning other Chicago suburban talent competitions such as the Elburn Days Idol, Fox Valley Got Talent, Kendal County Talent Competition and the Chicago Nightingale’s Talent Contest. She was awarded as a Female Vocalist at an inter-school competition held in Chicago’s Six Flags Great America. At age 14, she placed 3rd at the Illinois State Fairs Talent Competition, besting close to 50 other talents all over the state.

Naturally kind and generous, Kayla has accepted invitations from community event organizers as anthem singer, and has shared her singing talent in numerous fundraising events and Fil-Am Awards in Chicago and its suburbs, to benefit various social causes. Kayla has also graced and volunteered to perform in large Filipino American community events in Michigan, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Georgia.

With the amount of time she spent in helping the community, Kayla still maintains her high honor roll status at her high school. She wants to become a psychiatrist someday.

Endowed with exquisite beauty and grace, Kayla was tapped to model Philippine Designers’ clothes at the most recent Chicago Estillo Filipino Fashion Show.

Last year, she was launched in a mini-concert entitled, Double Rhythm, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago O’Hare.

This year, on August 4th, Kayla will be the main artist of a concert called, Summer Revival: A Gospel Concert, to be held at the Community Christian Church in Naperville, IL. The 2nd Annual Philippine American Friendship Dinner will be held on July 14th at St. Josaphat Banquet Center, 26440 Ryan Road in Warren, MI. Dinner at $50.
