And just like that, it is finally the month of March! Can you believe that jone year ago, we were struck by the Coronavirus pandemic. Schools were closed, travelling was discouraged, and public places closed down temporarily. Now, we have progressed to later stages of reopening which has lessened most restrictions and allowed more public places such as restaurants, movie theaters and gyms to reopen. Moreover, we have access to a Coronavirus vaccine! Hopefully we can create herd immunity among the population and return to our new normal lives. School-wise, we have reached the middle of the semester. With this in mind, this means that summer is approaching and warm weather is expected soon. After the weather we have experienced in the last few months, I am sure that most of us are excited and looking forward to some sunshine! Let us hear from our four featured college students for this month! If you would like to be featured, please email me at tejerokayla@gmail.com.

Kamrynne Romero says, “What I want to accomplish as a Filipino American college student is to finish my college years strong to become a nurse. While accomplishing that, I have always dreamed of helping out as much as I can like doing different charity works to give back to the community.”

Chris Realin says, “Humbled to enter such a rewarding career, I plan to not only study hard in nursing school while serving as a student Chaplain, but also to further my education to one day become a CRNA. Forever thankful for sacrifices my family and the generations before me have made to allow such an opportunity.”

Lawrence Torres says, “While in school I’d like to leave a good impact on my nursing cohorts, whether as a fellow classmate or as a close friend. After graduation, I plan on becoming an ICU nurse. I want to be there for people when they are at their worst, and help them to a healthy recovery.”

Jocelyn Hurley says, “ After graduation, I want to put my degree as a phlebotomist or as a medical laboratory technician to use by finding a job somewhere in the Des Moines Area. With this in mind, I hope to pay off my student loans and to eventually move out of my parents’ place. I hope to build a successful future for myself and to be able to live comfortably and to give back to the community.”
