Month of Uncertainty and Hope

Yes, March deserves the above title, month of uncertainty and hope. This third month in the zodiac opens our eyes and minds to uncertainty, particularly when it comes to weather predictions (snow, rain, or shine?), and yet we expect hope for the coming of the beautiful spring (melting of snow soon, more rains and sunshine). This is the time that our surroundings will be verdant and colorful buds and blooms of flowers delighting our senses (new hope, new life), with fragrant smells, and human activities all over. Don’t we love spring that also comes with daylight saving time? Meaning, more daylights to enjoy our daily activities in going into summer.

Pictured here are some VT staffers in the headlines this month…. Lourdes Mon, Faye Mendiola, and Veronica, gracing the occasion at the recently-concluded Lunar New Year celebration of the Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC), headed by VT columnist Doug Nguyen (pictured on page 25) as the Vietnamese American community heads this year’s AACC celebration; Kayla Tejero appearing at her maiden concert “Diva Concert,” see pictorial on her column page 22).

Tears of joy streamed my face over the surprise visit paid to me by David Rivas and his mom Chie (Lucy) Rivas, bringing me a bunch of colorful flowers and a plateful of fresh cut-up fruits one recent weekend. David was a familiar young face on CPRTV show and the Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame awards gala event since he was 14. At age 22, and now a college graduate, he has been appearing in stellar roles in New Jersey Ballet Ensemble. How time flies!

Welcome back to the usual grind to our VT staff who flew away like birds, going south, in the winter. In this case, a fun vacation in the Philippines. One thing for sure, they didn’t fail in meeting their deadline. So proud of you, great folks, having fun and ever-conscientious of their column submission!

Wishing our devoted readers a happy and memorable spring 2023! Enjoy reading your favorite columnists’ monthly delights in bringing the most interesting and exciting news and developments every month. ###
