Not feeling too discriminating in choosing a special MOTHER to feature in my column for this month, I have chosen to feature our VT columnist Rev. Pastor Nancy Abiera.

A very special person to me as a friend and a colleague, Nancy’s love and her children’s love towards her has been clearly spoken of and expressed in the short poem dedicated to her by her youngest son, Pastor Jeff Abiera, and a loving letter to a special mom dedicated to her by her oldest son, Dr. Jonathan H. Abiera.

Happy Mother’s Day to Nancy….and Happy Mother’s Day to all our readers and advertisers.

What is like to be Nancy Hombrebueno Abiera’s son?

It’s a question that many people wonder without even asking.

If you know my mother, she likes to use acronyms. So here is my acrimony for my mother Nancy

This what it’s like to be Nancy Hombrebueno Abiera’s son

N Nurturing. She’s one that cares for your spirit, body, and mind. When you’re with her, she takes her time, is present, and won’t leave until you’re better. She is a prayer warrior who will protect and guide as she leads you to the greatest comforter in Jesus.

A Adaptable. When the weather storms, she changes forms. Whether a mother, pastor, chaplain or friend. She will inform, conform, and always comes out stronger and transformed. From caterpillar to butterfly, She brings color to life and flutters high

N Noble. She has high character and integrity. It overflows out of her because she has the fear of the Lord. She’s bold, always has a story to be told . The epitome of dignity And a friend of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-TRUE divinity

C Cheerful. One of the biggest smiles and laughs you will ever hear and take sight. We live together, and her laugh is so loud that many times it has woken my children at night.

Y Youthful. As some grow old, my mother grows young. Young in spirit, but mature in wisdom. This is a combination that only few attain. Only gained through an experience and understanding of love mixed with pain. She lives with a sense of not doubt, but wonder A sense of not fear, but adventure and trust.

So what is it like to be Nancy Hombrebueno Abiera’s son?

It’s humbling. It’s hopeful and it’s full of love and definitely fun. Happy birthday!

I want to thank you for helping us celebrate my moms 65th birthday. I have so many stories of my mom and unfortunately, most of them was about me doing something wrong and getting caught. But she never gave up on me. She was always there, supporting me and giving me unconditional love. As I get older, I realized I was very hard on my mom because in my mind, she was indestructible. She is strong, diligent, and courageous. What ever life has thrown at her, she always overcame. It’s because inside of this strong courageous women, is a loving, kind hearted, and emotional woman. The reason she is still standing is because behind her, is Jesus. It is her trust in Him. It is the way she seeks His will. It is because this Woman is a women of God. And she has been an amazing example of what I looked for in my wife, and what my daughter can strive to be, and my sons to find.

Very successful Chicago performance of world-renowned Madrigal Singers held May 1st at St. Josaphat Parish Church, a production/presentation by FilAm Music Foundation founded by Victor Asuncion. Simply called the MADZ, and a choral group based in the University of the Philippines, it is an inspiring unique set-up of singing while seated (or standing) in a semi-circle, without a conductor.
