Jane Quiaoit Miran Mrs. FAASD

Jane Miran is a retired Registered Nurse. She is the fifth child of Lorenzo and Cresencia Quiaoit from Batac City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She is a granddaughter of Don Teogenes Quiaoit, the first congressman of llocos Norte. She is married for 33 years now to Rey Miran and they have three beautiful children together, Laura, Raymond and Jonah. They presently reside in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Jane graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with the honor of Magna Cum Laude from Arellano University, in Manila, Philippines. After graduation, she worked for a year in Ilocos Norte then moved to the United States at the age of 23. She started working in a nursing home in the Chicago suburbs where she was petitioned and then earned her immigrant status. As she gained more nursing experience, she then moved to the city and then worked at Lakeside Community Hospital in Chinatown, then at Michael Reese Hospital, then at University of Chicago Hospital, then at University of Illinois Hospital where she finally retired from work in May 2020 at the age of 59. She is proud to say that she had a total of 39 years in the nursing profession working in intensive care units and telemetry stepdown units.

During her younger years, she was a member of Annak Ti Batac Cultural Dance Troupe where they were trained by a Bayanihan dancer. Armed with cultural dancing skills, when a group of Filipino-American students and parents were looking for somebody to teach Filipino dances, she offered her time and talent to teach them. Thus the evolution of Samahang Kapatid – Illinois in 1999 with the leadership of Mr. Ruben Salazar. For several years, she was the cultural dance choreographer of Samahang Kapatid, then the Sulyap Filipino Cultural Dance Company. They have performed on countless Filipino and non-Filipino functions, groups, shows and events, hence promoting our Filipino heritage and culture. In 2010, she was honored in the VIA Times Chicago Hall of Fame for Dance Art – Folk Dance Choreography.

When FAASD was fi rst founded in 1985, she was chosen to be Miss FAASD – Hinswood. She was only 25 years old then. With pride and joy, after 37 years, and at the age of 62 she is very honored to represent Mrs. FAASD – Philippines for 2022-2024. Jane also joined the recently concluded Santacruzan fashion show where she proudly walked the runway using her terno Filipiniana gown. She was escorted by her loving husband, Rey. Jane is now enjoying her retirement to the fullest. She loves gardening, cooking, baking, creating crafts and decorations, volunteering her time to charity work, attending social activities, traveling, and most especially posing for the camera.
