Unlike any other year, holidays will be exceptionally different this time. Year 2020 will always stay in many people’s minds and hearts like an infamy, as compared to historic scourges of the Bubonic Plague, Spanish Flu, etc.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in this pandemic year, people are asking, how’s this holiday will look like. Of course, the answer(s) will depend on the personal choices you make out of your lives in this pandemic year. At this time that many politicians are scientists are dictating to us the kind of lifestyle we must observe to stay alive or healthy.

The CDC (Communicable Disease Center) offers some information to help assess the risks to keep your families and friends safe, starting from Thanksgiving until Christmas and New Year holidays.

Just to be safe, Thanksgiving plans for celebration will range from staying home for solitude to doing a more creative solutions like getting together with loved ones observing socially-distancing alfresco dining outside or more formal dining inside, or even enjoying a virtual dining. Although we know that we cannot fully duplicate the feeling of being together physically, on special family occasions. Most important health precaution: never, never forget to wear masks and take it off while dining, of course.

Regardless of how it comes together this year, Thanksgiving is still a special day for us to stop and reflect on everything we are so grateful for. For many Filipinos, this includes personal blessings, acceptance, and recognitions from family and friends, and polite acceptance of political leanings, whether Republican or Democrat.

From the Via Times and CPRTV families, thanks to everyone who has been with us for our many years of existence in serving the Filipino American community of Chicago, most especially to our readers and advertisers.

Wishing every one of our kababayan, the best that our beloved country (the great USA) can offer, after undergoing a hectic 2020 election. Time to heal the damages done to many’s hurt egos in participating in this beloved country’s democratic process.

Enjoy the palatable smells of baked turkeys, hams, or lechons in the oven, to the Thanksgiving celebrators. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
