Mother’s Day Is The Sweetest Day!

By: Veronica Leighton
As May has always been the most beautiful month as our Editorial talks about the wonderful occasions or celebrations or events of Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day, happy to say that this is also my birthday month (May 31st). My umpteenth celebration is something that gives me mixed feelings as I find it like climbing up a stairway teeny-weeny bit at a time, being extra-careful as I might not be able to make it on my return-bout. Have to love and take care of my fragile self.
This feeling reminds me of a quote written by my favorite star, Merrill Streep, who stated that, “Aging is not for the weak. One day you wake up and realize that your youth is gone, but along with it, so go insecurity, haste, and the need to please. You learn to walk more slowly, but with greater certainty. You say goodbye without fear, and you cherish those who stay. Aging means letting go, it means accepting, it means discovering that beauty was never in our skin… but in the story we carry inside us.”
Joinng me as May Babies are columnists Pastor Nancy Abiera, Ryan Tejero, Sarah Turner, and Faye Mendiola, and addendum BFF Gerry Rebello. Happy, happy birthday, to all of you, and may you have many more blessed birthdays to come.
Mother’s Day is one important occasion that many people observe and look forward to, every year. Some of our columnists like Pastor Edward Cortez (The Proverbs 31 Mother on page 11), Pastor Nancy Abiera (Mother’s Day Reflection on page 29), dedicate their columns this month to Mothers.
Happy birthday to my one and only, good son, Bobby, who celebrated his “another year older” birthday at the Texas Roadhouse.
Before signing off, we are thrilled to announce that our new Pope Leo is a son of Chicago, the first American Pope. Let’s welcome him with open arms!
Enjoy reading, as usual, your favorite columnists whose articles bring delight to many of you. Happy Beautiful May, the most alluring part of the year as we feel refreshed, reborn with the greening of trees and blossoming of colorful flowers. ###
