UP Los Banos Class ’71 Contributes $20K to UPAA in America’s Permanent Endowment Fund

A group of alumni from the University of the Philippines Los Banos Class 1971 (UPLB Class ’71) had initiated a fundraising effort to contribute to the UP Alumni Association in America (UPAAA). When this money is ready to draw its interest, the group intends to fund scholarships, thesis support and student health services in UP.
Over the years, UPLB Class ’71 has been actively involved in assisting UP. In 2021, the group established the Emergency Facility for the University Health Service (UHS) at UP Los Baños and made it as its legacy project. It is now converted into a Youth Wellness Hub where students receive mental health services, treat heat exhaustion, psychotherapy and behavior therapy.
A total of 41 balikbayan boxes containing medical supplies and equipment were sent to UHS, including wound care items such as wound cleaners, bandages, antibiotic ointments and liquids, tapes. The group also sent over the counter medicines, clinical and operating room tools like forceps, scissors, sutures, and various implements, clinical jars and stainless steel containers, disposable bed covers and personal protection gowns, face masks and shields, disposable gloves, nurse upper scrubs and bed sheets and pillow cases, autoclave, bathroom scale, thermometers, stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, catheters, bedside commodes, swab sticks, orthopedic items like leg, arm and foot casts, elastic wraps, arm slings, bedside commodes, walkers, disposable syringes and needles, etc.
With the initiative of Cesar Drilon, through the Department of Health, a Medical Assistance Indigent Fund (MAIF) amounting to PhP2M was donated to UHS from 2022 to 2023. The 2022 MAIF benefitted 102 indigent individuals requiring medical and surgical care, lab testing as well as medications.
On August 19, 2022, together with Ray Almario and Tomas Lugod at the Office of the UPLB Chancellor, Class ’71 donated PhP100,000 to purchase three laptops for “Rent a Laptop” program for students.
A beautiful Horticultural Therapy Garden was built beside the Emergency Room Extension Facility (EREF) in October 2022.
Through a Golf Tournament fundraising led by Arelyne Pacho-Ramos, Class ’71 donated the proceeds of P384,612 towards the Echocardiogram project of Class ‘72. Between 2024 and 2025, Class ’71 had accomplished the following: donation of Php 500,000, half of which came from Raymundo Almario, for Class ’74 legacy project on the gift of sight; floor renovation of Emergency Facility was completed amounting to Php 157, 473.00;
donated Php120,000, through the efforts of Arelyne Pacho-Ramos, to the Institute of Animal Science, UPLB. Early this year, Ayds Adalla initiated the fundraising for Holter Monitor amounting to Php 500,000.
