Democrats approved two gas tax increases in 2027

The first gas tax hike will take place on January 1, 2027, the second will go into effect on July 1, 2027.
This is the first time, that Democrats have ever pushed through two separate gasoline tax hikes in one year.
The gas tax prior to JB Pritzker taking office was 18 cents a gallon, on Jan 1, it will increase to almost 50 cents a gallon. The amount it will increase on July 1, 2027 has not been announced yet.
Unlike states bordering Illinois that have lowered their gas taxes, Illinois Democrats have refused to do the same creating more pain at the pump.
Illinois Democrats believe higher gas prices will encourage Illinoisans to ditch their cars and use mass transit of purchase electric vehicles. (META)
