Sun-Kissed Days in June

By: Kyla Tejero

My birthday month is here! Happy June! Finally we are in the lovely season of summer. It’s so refreshing to have long, sunny, and warm days. I love waking up to the sun rising and still seeing the sun when I look out for work in the evening. Feeling the warm heat of the sun and just basking in it makes me feel so happy and relaxed after a long day! This month we celebrate many events such as Pride, Juneteenth, Fathers Day and summer solstice on June 21. This day marks the official day of summer, expecting much warmer days ahead. This month I also celebrate my 25th birthday. It’s hard to believe I’m this old now, or should I say another year wiser? I will be travelling this month. I have a wedding to attend, and it will be a lot of fun to see how others make it to be a June bride. I have a lot of invitations from friends and it is very timely to socialize and get some company from genuine people. Oh, how the time goes by so fast! Can we make it slow down a bit? This month also means the end of the school year and the start of summer break for our students. It is actually more family fun time for those taking a break from school, time to maybe find a job or join a running club. For some, it also might mean graduation! Whether it’s from a program, high school, college, or higher education programs, this is a month of celebration. Let us hear from our four features for this month!

Mylingh says, “As an Asian American first generation, I aspire to accomplish one day as an adult to live a fulfilled life my parents never had. Sure I went the untraditional path of typical Asian expectations, but it’s not stopping me. I failed at life at times, but I am human, went from art to tech and wouldn’t have it in any other day. I hope to continue to cure my inner child and leap through life obstacles and get to my dreams at Google or any bigger tech company.”
Kristina says, “As an Asian American young adult, I want to build a life where I can grow confidently in my career as a Solutions Architect, continually expanding my technical skills and impact. I hope to travel, experience new cultures, and enjoy the world with curiosity wherever I go. My long‑term goal is to become a technical
leader who not only solves complex problems but also inspires others in my community to pursue ambitious paths in tech.”
Marah says, “As an Asian American college student, I want to keep our cultural roots alive. Students tend to focus on the social aspect so much that we forget the one thing that brought us together. I hope the role that I play in college environments can encourage us young adults to remember and take pride in our culture!”
Gian says, “As a young Asian American nurse, I plan on obtaining my BSN later this year. I also want to complete my Med-Surg Certification later this summer. Once I complete my BSN, I plan on transferring to a different type of specialty such as the ICU. I also want to go back to school to get my MSN.”
