Elenita (Ellen) P. Tan Chicago Filipino American Community Leader

cm1Born on April 8, 1941 in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines. She died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights.

Mrs. Tan was an elementary school teacher and former actress in the Philippines. She was a member and past president of Chicago Fil-USA Lions Club, past president of the Calamba Assn. of Illinois, past president of the Laguna Association of the Midwest and former overall chairperson of the Philippines Independence Week Committee 2016.

She was a recipient of the Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame for Outstanding Community Service in 2010 (given by VIA Times/CPRTV).

Elenita is survived by her husband Esmeraldo; her daughter, Leah T. (Gines) Montoya, her son Leandro “Lindy” Tan; her granddaughter, Megan T. Montoya and her grandson, Erick T. Montoya.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Agustin and Teofila (nee Razon) Paunlagui; and by her siblings.

Her wake was held at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, on Feb 19, followed by Funeral Mass, Feb 20, at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Interment private.
