Remembering Justo Alamar on his 20th Death Anniversary

Justo O. Alamar ‘s 20th death anniversary was remembered by his wife, Estrella, by inviting friends to attend Asian Lunar New Year celebration of the Southeast Asian Center at the Furama Restaurant in uptown Chicago on February 17. Justo was SEAC president until succumbing to lung cancer during a trip to the Philippines in 1998.

Justo was a longtime active volunteer leader in the community for many years. As a Korean War veteran he contributed an admirable service in positions as Commander of the American Legion Filipino Post No. 509 and American Legion 6th District Commander. In the Chicago Philippine Independence parades he was an organizer and leadoff with the Post No.509 color guard. He was also President of the Maywood Bataan Day Organization.

As a Chicago-born Filipino American he valued his heritage by discovering his family roots via trips to the Philippines to Nueva Vizcaya and Zambales; and taking Tagalog classes at Chicago’s Rizal Center.
