The Women’s Auxiliary to the Philippine Medical Association of Chicago (PMAC), also known as PMAC Auxiliary, is turning 57 years old this year. For many years since its inception, the Auxiliary group has been a strong partner to PMAC’s success in its numerous benevolent projects here in America and back home in the Philippines. They have been successful in bringing medical missions in the Philippines. The target provinces of the medical missions are typically the home provinces of the PMAC and Auxiliary leadership. The group also initiated scholarship projects for local recipients, including those in the Philippines.

Just like other organizations, the Auxiliary had also faced many challenges. On two occasions, the Auxiliary encountered incorporation tax issues. The problem has since been resolved. The Auxiliary does not need the tax-exempt status as it is now being covered under PMAC’s tax exemption status, together with the PMAC and Auxiliary Medical Foundation.

In support of its various projects, the Auxiliary organizes fundraising events which include Thanksgiving and Halloween. This year, on September 23, 2023, the Auxiliary will mark its 57th year along with PMAC’s 63rd year through an Inaugural Ball at the Chicago Marriott Oakbrook.

Currently heading the Auxiliary is Nancy Dizon Castro. As an experienced and outstanding community leader, Nancy had occupied top positions as Past President of Circulo Capampangan and Samahan Sa Baryo. She also became the Chairperson of St. Mary Mokena Simbang Gabi.

She is married to Dr. Rafael Castro, who is a General Surgeon and Wound Care Specialist. She is a proud mother to Gerard, who received his Doctorate in Public Health, Jennifer, who is a Paralegal, and John, who is an Architect. Nancy migrated to the United States some 49 years ago. She is born and raised in San Fernando, Pampanga. She went to the University of Santo Tomas for her degree in Elementary Education. Nancy worked as an elementary school teacher at St. Scholastica Academy Pampanga prior to migrating to the US. Currently, Nancy is happily enjoying her retirement. She previously worked as an Office Manager. In her leisure time, she uses her formal training in interior design and floral arts.

As an inspiration to the Filipino American community, Nancy encourages everyone to get involved in the community. She said that “always believe in yourself, as kindness begets kindness.”

Please contact Nancy through telephone (815) 954 0094 or email Gjj091211@aol.com for those who are interested to join the organization or join them in their Inaugural Ball.
