Police Accountability Task Force

“We are thankful to the Chicago community for participating in our process to gather input about the kinds of reforms that are necessary for the Chicago Police Department in order to restore trust between police and the communities they serve. We set an initial goal to deliver our report laying out our recommendations for reform to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago City Council by the end of March. However, we have decided that more time is needed to complete our work. We will use this additional time to further develop our findings and recommendations as well as continue to engage relevant stakeholders so that we can set the stage for meaningful and long-lasting change. We anticipate delivering the report in mid-April.

We have received valuable input from hundreds of Chicago residents who participated in our city-wide Community Forums and from the many extensive and broad-reaching interviews our Working Groups have been conducting with subject matter experts, those who have direct experience with police through one-on-one or group interactions and others who have provided additional information and perspectives to share. We are grateful for the time and energy people have devoted to this process and look forward to delivering a thoughtful roadmap for real and lasting transparency, respectful engagement, accountability and constructive change that will have a positive and permanent impact on Chicago and all of its residents.

If any member of the public wants to share information with the PATF, please contact us via our website at chicagopatf.org.” Statement from Police Accountability Task Force Chair Lori E. Lightfoot
