Tis the Time for Good Cheer

The Philippine Senior Golfers Association kicked off their holiday awards event by offering Filipino delicacies after registration. There was a sweet table of native concoctions of “biko” or rice cakes, small morsels of tasty appetizers that would constitute elements of a Philippine tradition called “merienda” or afternoon snack, but to some “comedians”, it seemed like desserts were being served before dinner. To me it signified the spirit of the league itself, of giving more than receiving, of being the gracious hosts and gentlemen who were also guided by their lovely spouses in putting their best foot forward to welcome guests and members alike. The incoming PSGA President, Patrick Mangulabnan, a very jovial and charismatic leader respected on and off the course, along with his wife Fe, warmly greeted participants as they made their way to the ballroom of the Bloomingdale Golf Club. He was inducted by Guest of Honor, Philippine Chicago Consul General Generoso Calonge who was also awarded by the PSGA for his community service and dedication to the community. With Pat were his PSGA Board of Directors Chair Jun Delfin, Vice President Del Pulido, Secretary Angel Quiaoit, Treasurer Gerry L Liwanag and Auditor Gil Sarmiento. Music was provided by the ever lively Freddie Alba and the requisite raffle was ably peppered with James Delacruz’s brand of humor. All in all, it was a fun and engaging time for all and I was honored to be asked to emcee this affair. Congratulations to outgoing President Andy Justo for setting a high bar of quality and sportsmanship, and we wish the new officers all the best as they move forward to make PSGA truly a league of distinguished gentlemen !

And finally, another Grand birthday celebration for Veronica’s sister, Neneth Miranda came to pass held at the Northbrook Hilton. Invited guests and family members were encouraged to wear a prince or princess outfit from their favorite Disney movie, which made this event another fun time for all.. Neneth’s sons, Richard, Ronnie and Ron were there with their wives and children, and all of them performed to the delight of the party goers. Please enjoy the pictures from both events and all I can say is “Thank You” to Neneth for making me a part of her family album year after year!

Until next time, make more memories this holiday season and focus on all our blessings from this day forward — happy holidays!
