Happy Halloween!

The month of October brings us closer to the holidays. With the ongoing pandemic and the national elections, this year will just be eventful for all of us. This month, we welcome my favorite season of Fall, and of course anticipate the Halloween fever. Will there be trick or treating with the pandemic? Additionally, it is the season for fall festivities such as apple picking, spending time at the pumpkin patch, or getting lost in a corn maze. As we deal with Covid 19, I would like to encourage everyone to continue to stay safe and cautious. Always keep that sanitizer with you, wash your hands, and keep that six feet social distancing mind set all the time. This pandemic is not going away soon, as the cases are still on the rise in many places. Let us hope that a vaccine will come around sooner, and that we can return to “normal.” Let’s hear from our four featured college students for the month of October! Please email me if you want to be part of my column @tejerokayla@ gmail.com.

Charles Borromeo says, “As a Filipino American college student, I want to be able to accomplish enough to live a stable life and make not only myself proud, but my parents and peers. Something that I tend to struggle with right now, is the way how online classes are formatted, but it’s okay.”

Lara Salazar says, “As a Filipino American college student, I aim to be a role model and a strong advocate for the community. I also hope to inspire others to become more open-minded in order to gain a perspective and to enhance personal growth.”

Michael Padilla says, “As a Filipino American I want to help my family while in school. I believe that being a nurse is a privilege on its own, and I can’t wait to help people as a nurse. It is also super important to acknowledge the contributions that Filipino Americans have made, and to recognize all the people that have come before us. We wouldn’t be here without them.”

Jaina Sckiactano says, “As a fellow Filipino American Student, I want to show how hardworking and helpful people we are. My goals consist of being able to help others to the best of my abilities and to graduate with my degree in Nursing. These are goals I intend to fulfill not only for me, but for my family because becoming a nurse is a dream that I do not want to quit on.”
