Happy October! This month welcomes fall. The weather is starting to become a bit more chilly, the leaves are starting to change colors from green to red, and our wardrobes are shifting from tank tops and shorts to big, comfy sweaters. Personally, I am so excited to engage in more fall activities such as apple picking, going to the pumpkin patch, and visiting a haunted house. At the end of the month, we will celebrate Halloween! Hopefully the kids will be able to go trick or treating safely and enjoy dressing up in their costumes. I am also excited with school, as I have reached the middle of the Fall semester. Nursing school has been busy with one exam after the next. It feels like homework never ending. I am sure many of my fellow students can relate. With that said, let us hear from our four featured students for this month about their youthful dreams and aspirations in life!

Elijah Guerra says, “I want to be able to say that despite all the hardships that me and my family have been through, I can still say that I made the life that my parents always wanted. As a Filipino-American, my goal is to become successful in a country that my dad tried so hard to even gain access to, let alone live in. Because of the hard work that my parents went through to raise me in the US, I am determined to become successful enough so that my parents can look at me and feel as though all their hard work has paid off.”

Matthew Riley says, “I am currently focused on completing my undergraduate in Movement & Exercise Science, and decorating my application for various graduate schools in the Midwest – with the University of Iowa being my top pick! After achieving my doctorate in Physical Therapy – I plan on starting in the outpatient setting. I’ll have the opportunity to help a wide demographic of old to young individuals with injury rehabilitation and prevention.”

Christian Paulo Eustaquio says, “My college career has been full of ups and downs. I felt that I was not doing right by the sacrifices that my parents have made to bring my brother and I here from the Philippines to the United States. I am determined to redeem and improve myself in multiple facets during my stay at Aurora University and beyond. I plan to gather as much knowledge as I can, hone my skills, and be of service to others to the best of my abilities. I want to prove that your past does not define you; it is what you do in the present that determines your future.”

Gracie Magcalas says, “As a Filipino American college student, I’m majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. My goals during my time here in school is to get involved with clubs and meet new people! After graduation, I hope to do internships that will help me become an interrogator or crime investigator.”
