A FREE virtual workshop reading and panel discussion. Based on the life of Larry Itliong and the archival research of Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon, the musical tells the stories of the Filipino American Farmworkers who led one of the most successful labor movements in US history. Oct 6, Wednesday at 1130am – UNITE, United Airlines’ multi-cultural business resource group invites you to join them in a virtual celebration of the Filipino American History Month with special guests, Albert Samaha, and Chicago’s very own, Billy Dec. Come and learn about the Filipino culture and American roots. Your host, Richelle Tuazon, will lead the conversation and trivia questions (with prizes) and share more about what’s happening around the city to celebrate this special month. Immediately after the movie, we will have live panel with guests: Nar Cabico the main actor of the movie, Jhett Tolentino – The only Fil-Am to have a Grammy Award and 3 Tony Award winner for his work with Color Purple and Michelle Josue – An Emmy award winner for directing Netflix’s Happy Jail. This is the documentary about the jail in the Philippines who would dance to the Michael Jackson’s Thriller every Halloween. Oct 11 Monday at 12 Noon – The Filipino American community will once again join the Columbus Day Parade starting at State and Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago. Oct 17 Sunday at 3pm – Filipino American History Month Celebration. Celebrate Filipino American History Month, the 35 year anniversary of the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago, the 30 year anniversary of CIRCA/Pintig and 25 year anniversary of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation at our exhibit event with a luncheon, and performance. Featuring a musical performance by the Samasama Project, Tinikling dance from UIC FIA Cultural, theatrical preview from CIRCA/Pintig and other performances. It is the story of a young man’s dream of adventure and a different if not a better life in another country. The Filipino Community led by Piyesta Pinoy joins the Annual Bolingbrook Pathways Parade held last Sept 12, 2021 with the theme “Roaring 2020’s.” The Filipino Theme “Heroes” honors the doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery workers, firemen, police officers, and all essential workers serving our communities during the Pandemic, the HEROES of the Roaring 2020’s! The Filipino group received Second Place in the Adult Marching category during the Awards Ceremony announced after the Parade!
