Party in The USA

Happy 4th of July! This month we celebrate the independence of America’s original 13 colonies from British rule. On July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was adopted. For this holiday, some traditions include watching the fireworks, participating in parades, and/or grilling on the barbecue. It’s a day to spend with friends and family, and to show American patriotism. I’m sure many of us are proud to be American today, as we sporting our red, white and blue! Not to mention putting on the high spirits of independence amongst us. Independence plays an important role in making those important decisions in our lives. Independence spells out who we are and what we want to become. May we get all educated about the true meaning of independence and practice it by being mindful of what makes us safe, and happy! For us young adults and depending on our career choice, we may have the day off and are able to enjoy the holiday to the fullest. For others, we find ourselves at work banking in the holiday pay. Either way, there is some sense of enjoyment. For our students, they are enjoying the heat of the summer holiday. It is important to work hard, while also being able to play hard as well. That is what true balance is about. Let us hear from our featured college students/graduates for this month!

Isabela says, “Throughout my academic journey, I will continue to collaborate with peers, faculty, and even patients from diverse backgrounds within the field of occupational therapy to develop and improve my cultural competence. By collaborating with these individuals, I am able to gain insight into effective strategies and practices for an overall positive therapy delivery. Post-graduation and as a licensed occupational therapist, I will bring all the knowledge I have gained from my academics and clinical experiences to advocate health equity amongst underserved populations.”

Bhagi says, “I am an Asian American young adult who has completed BSN and is considering pursuing a NP. I want to make a meaningful impact in my community by addressing health disparities and promoting wellness. I want to serve as a role model and advocate for health equity and access to care. Currently, I am striving for a work-life balance that allows me to enjoy my personal life while pursuing my professional goals.”

Michael says, “As a Filipino American and President of the nonprofit Miss Worldwide International Foundation, my goal is to bridge communities through leadership workshops and events. Additionally, I aspire to be one of the best stock traders, a passion I developed during the pandemic. Learning languages is another skill I aim to develop, as it is essential for truly understanding and appreciating other cultures.”

Adam says, “As an Asian American, I want to learn more about strategies to generalize occupational therapy centering around shared Asian cultures. I also want to add an Asian perspective to occupational therapy.”
