That Summertime Feeling

By: Kayla Tejero
Every month seems to bring in a new spirit of joy and excitement. Although the month of June kicks off with some warm weather already, it also brings the fun of enjoying the sun and visiting places. While there are so many fun things to do this summer, it is always great to plan carefully and think about safety. Speaking of summer, Chicago offers a lot of opportunities to have fun. We all can enjoy the hot beaming rays of the sun walking the streets of downtown Chicago, or maybe chill by the pool and water parks, and barbecuing with friends. Some of us may even find ourselves road tripping or boarding the plane for a fun vacation. Unlike the winter months, many of us find ourselves outside whether it’s just a humble walk outside or on an exotic vacation. Nevertheless, we are all much happier in the summer months and with the sun out! This month, I celebrate another trip around the sun. It’s crazy to think that I am turning 23 this month. I have accomplished so much yet feel like I have so many more things to do. I always must remind myself to take my time, give myself grace, and that the world is my oyster. There is so much I have yet to accomplish. I wish to pass this on to my college students and fellow young adults who are making their debut in society. Let us hear from our four featured college students for this month!
Tiara says, “As an Asian American college graduate that has finished my associates in the medical laboratory scientist in the Philippines, I want to continue my education here in the states and earn my bachelors. I want to expand my knowledge in the theory and practical aspect.”
Ria says, “My goal in life is to help others be the best they can, or at least feel the best they can. Those together with my interests and what I’m studying, leads to the end goal in the healthcare industry.”
Janine says, “As I still continue to navigate school in the medical field, it’s important for me to continue to learn and gain knowledge to be able to teach others. My goal is to become a PT to continue to care for other people, share not only my knowledge in medicine but knowledge of life, my culture and other aspects of life to educate and help them recover.”
Arpee says, “As an Asian American College student, all I wanted was to get my degree and make my family in Philippines proud. Due to financial difficulties, I wasn’t able to finish my bachelor’s degree and had to enlist in order to support my family. After a successful career in the Navy I decided to pursue my childhood dream which is to become a pilot, explore the world and live an adventurous life.”
