marilin-solomonMarilin D. Solomon is a Field Engineer/Head of West Division in the Bureau of Local Road sat Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), District One in Schaumburg, Illinois. She oversees the Local Agencies in DuPage, Kane, Central Cook and North Central Cook Counties. She is the point of contact for at least 100 Local Agencies including Townships and is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relations between the State and Area Local Agencies while administering the State and Federal transportation funds. She is responsible for all Roadway and Bridge Engineering decisions and judgment in West Division, such as Environmental Studies, Public Involvement, Roadway Geometric and Bridge designs, and all Motor Fuel Tax funded projects let and constructed according to the Road, Bridge, and other related Laws in Illinois. Marilin has high-profile projects, such as City of St. Charles Red Gate Bridge over the Fox River with total cost of 28M, Village of Melrose Park 25th Avenue over the UPRR with total cost of $42M, and Kane County Longmeadow Parkway Toll road with a total cost of $120M. She’s been with the Department for 22 years.

Marilin is also the Outgoing President of Philippine Engineers and Scientists Organization (commonly known as PESO) serving from 2013- 2015. She’s been a lifetime member of PESO since 1990. As a 35th PESO President and the third woman PESO President, she works diligently to ensure that PESO Constitutional objectives are being accomplished. Highlights of 2013-2015 accomplishments include conducting the technical seminars and educational field trip to update members’ knowledge in technology and regulations affecting the scientific and engineering profession, awarded scholarship grants to qualified students with Filipino ancestry to pursue engineering and scientific field of studies, provided recognition and granted awards to outstanding and new college engineers and scientists, and served the professional interest of the general membership. She led this prestigious organization with all the events and activities to promote professional fellowship. She successfully completed her twoyear term.

She completed Development Programs such as Development and Training Engineers in the Bureaus of Construction, Design and Programming, Professional Advancement of Career Engineers, and Program Development Technical Program. She’s a member of Illinois Association of Highway Engineers, and IDOT delegate to Illinois Association of County Engineers. Prior working at IDOT, Marilin has previously worked in City of Chicago, Department of Public Works, and H.W. Lochner, Inc., a Consulting firm in Chicago downtown. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas, a Catholic and oldest university in Manila, Philippines. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and the Philippines.

Marilin and her husband Leo, are active arishioners of St. Walter Church. They live in Bloomingdale, Illinois, along with their children: Alyssa Marie, Eugene Alexander and Kenneth Jacob, and mothers: Amy and Ester. Marilin has participated in voluntary events such as Feeding the Hungry, St. Isidore “Simbang Gabi”, and Relay for Life, to name a few.
