Chicago Nightingales pay it forward, Bensenville Firefi ghters

By Rose San Diego

Paying it forward to fi rst responders and frontline staff, the Chicago Nightingales were excited to select Station 101-District 2 of the Bensenville Fire Protection Department as one of our many honorees and recipients of some sweet donut treats from a local merchant on March 26, 2022.

Chief Chris Sadilands was on hand to meet us with his staff, give a tour of the station and chat with the Veterans Combined American Legion and VFW Post (8664 West Grand Ave.) in River Grove.

As our nation’s fi rst responders, their team’s continued dedication in providing emergency medical services, public education, and specialized rescue is so admirable. It was a small token of gratitude but for a much greater cause, that our members and friends wanted to express our deepest appreciation and say “Thank You” for the incredible commitment in serving and keeping the local communities safe.

Joining our group were many veterans, including Ed Casteneda, a 25 year Mastery Gunnery Sgt., Jaime Fernandez who spent 10 years in the Corps with overseas tours to Iraq and Afghanistan, Richard Wojewnick, Chicagoland Combined Veterans Museum, Library & Honor Wall Vice President,( River Grove) Dale Tippett 9th District chaplain, with his wife Lorna, Barney Dufner who was awarded the Silver Star for his actions at Con Thien, and so much more.

It was an honor to be amongst those who served, and as nurses and frontliners our Chicago Nightingales continue the mission of hope and respect.
