STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF CALVIN K. MANSHIO

Attorney, former Illinois Commerce Commission Chair and former Asian American Coalition of Chicago member Calvin K. Manshio recently passed away (on July 24, 2014). Calvin K. Manshio was an attorney by profession, a writer by avocation, and a community leader by calling.* He served as president of the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) from 1993-1997. His goal was to empower a new generation of leadership, while serving a sense of continuity.* The JACS 180-bed Keiro Extended Care Center on Springfield and Foster opened in Chicago in October 1993. From 1985 – 1992, Manshio served as a Commissioner on the Illinois Commerce Commission. He was interim director of Asian Human Services of Chicago from 1983- 1985. He also served as adjunct professor of The John Marshall Law School in Chicago; as a member of the board of directors for the Chicago Boy Scouts of America and the Asian American Institute (for three terms from 1992-1995). He was co-founder of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area in 1987; and served two terms as president of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area from 1990-1992. He was serving as President of the Japanese Mutual Aid Society of Chicago at his time of death. · ENERI COMMUNICATIONS
