How Do You Keep Up?

Keeping up with the modern times goes with keeping up with the technology, more particularly in the area of communication or the media of publishing and broadcasting (of course, lately, with our state-of-the art website). Technology changes with the blink of an eye. Truthfully, we are still quite confused with “uploading” & “downloading” computer terminologies. And, lately what is a “cloud,” in computer tech. may I ask?

I can never forget the start-up years of VIA Times, before the advent of desktop publishing, where we would manually cut and paste and layout VT pages on our kitchen/living room floors bayanihan style with some volunteering friends. It has since evolved into its modern looks/styles right now due to technology– and, by keeping up with technology, we are not that further behind from the other billion-dollars media enterprises (not in the money sense, but in technology sense).

Broadcasting technology goes hand in hand with the publishing technology. Remember the days of live studio programming followed by taped programming and in which the tapes used by the broadcast stations evolved from huge tapes, then tiny USB tapes, and these days through electronic transmissions, allowing you to stay home while transacting the broadcast business.

CPRTV, VT’s sister company, has not been left too far behind, either, in terms of keeping up with the technology. I am happy to announce that CPRTV is now introducing the special effects of “green screen” for various background tech effects in our other segments. Experimenting first on our LOL segment, we’re showing here in picture the great green effect it has created on this favorite segment of our show; more pictures on LOL, page 30.

Many, many thanks to our volunteering CPRTV crew members Bryan and Mary Jane Evangelista who donated their knowledge and expertise of the green-screen tech. together with Aaron Estolas. Both Bryan and Aaron are now serving as our new CPRTV technical directors (and actors sometimes).

Thanks much and congrats to CPRTV staff and VT advertiser, Mary Jane Evangelista, for the anniversary of her company, U.S. Nursing Review. By the way, MJ is also a 2014 past awardee of the Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame in the field of Education.

Welcome to the CPRTV-fold as Tech Directors, Aaron & Bryan! Enjoy reading VT from cover to cover, as usual, and reading about our 2015 PIWC beauty queens (cover and inside pages 40-41). Your favorite columnists have exciting things they are sharing with you, with all kinds of topics, you name it, we have it here in VT.

I have been wanting to share with you the picture of our kalamansi tree from our deck garden with about 400 blooms this year, believe it or not, but due to lack of space, will just share it in our coming August issue, together with our other plants like peppers and ashitaba herbal, courtesy of our in-home hacendero sa paso, Joe Mauricio.**.
