DHS Summer Internship Program Overview
The Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) is looking for current undergraduate students interested in a career in public service for paid summer internships! DHS is one of Illinois’ largest agencies, with approximately 13,000 employees, five divisions, and a large number of human services programs. Interns will work in a specific program area or operational unit, have access to an informal mentor, and will participate in frequent class-wide activities gain exposure DHS executive staff to better understand the “big picture” at DHS.

Where: Positions available in Chicago, Springfield, Dixon, Waukegan, and Centralia
DHS is looking for interns across multiple operational units and program areas, including the following:
• Communications (Springfield)
• Heroin/Opiate Overdose Prevention (Chicago)
• Pharmacy and Clinical Support Services (Springfield)
• Customer and Support Services (Springfield)
• Strategy and Performance Management (Chicago)
• Rehabilitation Services: Home Services, Strategic Management, Independent Living, Blind Services, and Disability Determination (Springfield and Chicago)
• Business / Organizational Development (Springfield)
• Mental Health (Springfield)
• State Operated Developmental Centers: Activity Therapy (Waukegan), Special Education (Centralia), and Psychology (Dixon)
• Technology (Springfield)
• Workforce Development (Chicago and Springfield)
• Child Care Assistance Program (Springfield)
• Technology System Implementation (Chicago)
