Ernanilla (Nellie) Lequin, HUmanitarian Golden Heart Awardee 2016 of Pilipino American Social Services & Human Resources Center

Nellie Lequin is a person who was born with an innate humanitarian heart as she is always thinking of helping other people in need of help. She had the heart and the passion in involving herself in the feeding program for the indigent people in her hometown of Santo Rosario Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte, likewise donating fixtures and funds for the improvement of their church, and donating a piece of their land for 20 homeless families. And, that was only the beginning.

In Chicago, she has devoted her time and efforts and donated to some community organizations, to name a few, the Pilipino American Social Service (PASS), Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) and Pilipino American Senior Citizens Association of Chicago (PASAC).

A devout Aglipayan in faith, her church involvement is endless….she was the Hermana Mayor 2010 at the Flores de Mayo flower offering for the Blessed Virgin Mary and likewise served as Hermana at St. Matthias Church in August 2014, for the Santo Nino de Agosto Fiesta.

For her socio-civic involvement, she is an active member of the USA Regional Ladies for Rizal, and serves in the board of directors of Jose Rizal Lions Club.

Nellie’s various involvement brings her to other beauty fundraising efforts of certain organizations like the Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC), where she was recently crowned as Mrs. Chicago PIWC 2016, and Mrs. Pilipino American Senior Citizens Association of Chicago (PASAC). She had also modeled for PASS fashion show, for a fundraiser in 2013.

What are Nellie’s thoughts about her civic, community, religious, and humanitarian activities? “I am always excited to give my time, efforts and money to help in any fundraising activities of organizations. I am always willing and ready to give, as long as there are resources that I will be able to share, and that comes from my heart.”

Nellie has three children from her deceased husband, namely, Fronilla, a nurse, Jonathan, a student of Industrial Engineering, and Harold, an automotive mechanic. She also has three grandchildren, Anya Charisse Guinto, a teacher, Asron Louisse Guinto, a student at La Salle, and Harvey Roque Lequin, an elementary student. Her pleasurable pastime includes singing and dancing.
