Happy Women Historical Month & Women’s History Day on Mar 8th

The official United Nations theme for International Women’s Day in 2016 is Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality focusing on new commitments under UN Women’s Step It Up initiative, and other existing commitments on gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s human rights.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year, with its long history going back 1909 in Russia, followed by U.S. and Germany (see an old German poster at left showing the International Women’s Day in March 8, 1914). Celebrations these days range from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements, an occasion for people to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, taking out the bitter taste of political reasons.
