A Supreme 10-Year Celeb

Maria Girlie Pascual

Three women, all registered nurses, all attractive, highly educated and equal partners to a home health care agency in Oakbrook.

Sounds like a good cast for a reality show, or a recipe for disaster. Thankfully, none of that happened because after ten years of running and managing Supreme Home Health, Inc., Sue Nicolas Buniao, Alma Victoria Cadorna Viudez and CPRTV’s own Health Matters host, Melody Rabor-Dizon, have just celebrated their tenth year serving the Filipino American community all over the Chicagoland area.

Sue is married to Claro Buniao and this long-legged lady hails from Isabela province north of Manila, Alma is married to Ramon Viudez and she is a native Ilocandia, while Melody, a Cebuana, is happily married (judging by her Facebook postings) to Dino Dizon. All of them have hardworking husbands, healthy children and are all living the American dream, fulfilling their passion for helping patients, particularly those coming from nursing homes, rehab facilities or post-surgery individuals that require home-care visits from nurses, therapists and certified nursing aides.

I was invited to celebrate with them last month at the sprawling Bloomingdale Golf and Country Club, and a well-heeled crowd of doctors, nurses and administrative personnel hobnobbed to the music of a well-known DJ. An open bar, a sumptuous dinner, and heartfelt speeches from the lady partners were all different but with one message- saying “Thank you” to their staff, their health care partners, and their patients. It was a fun, enjoyable event but the highlight of the night was a well-rehearsed performance of Sue, Alma and Melody, lipsynching the memorable title song from the movie “Dreamgirls,” all sexy and scintillating in their matching purple outfits and choreographed number.

The crowd was ecstatic and a command performance follow-up, this time a throwback to the singing group of Diana Ross and the actual “Supremes,” brought the audience to applause when they sang “Baby Love,” a tune from the 60’s. It was a live vocal rendition from Melody, accompanied by Sue and Alma who sang back-up.

It was a fitting tribute to all the three singers who were once the queens of the recording world back then, known as the “Supremes,” and currently, a great way to acknowledge the partnership and dedication of the female triangle who are spearheading the Supreme Home Health agency now. This is their message (sent by email) to all who have helped them celebrate their success in helping others:

From Sue Bunioa, Alma Viudez and Melody Dizon:

“It is with grateful hearts to share the night of celebration of Supreme Home Health, Inc’s 10th year anniversary with all of you. Persistence, dedication, passion and a series of collaboration from ordinary people that brings about the extraordinary character within us, giving us a sense of fulfillment and achievement in what we devote our time and lives to.

To the staff of Supreme Home Health, Inc., our loyal nurses, our motivated therapists in the field, our ever-devoted office staff, our exceptional home health aides, our partners in caring for our patients – our doctors, case managers, social workers, hospitals and nursing homes alike – in trusting us and giving us the full support we need, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Our dear friends and most especially our own respective spouses and children, who stood by us, understood us, always ready to extend a hand and walk the extra mile with us, was more than we could ask for. Our hearts are overflowing with joy and it is in that same token of joy and thankfulness that we intend to carry the flag of Supreme Home Health, Inc. higher and higher each year as we bring supreme care to our elderly in the community.”

Happy, happy anniversary to Supreme Home Health, Inc.!
