Warrior Heart

Why be ashamed of your Love, my Love?
Why timid in showing courage?
Has not my passion filled your cup,
worthy of loyalty’s merit?
The warmth of my lips you enjoy at will,
why turn from the fire of their truth?
Does your love only last in the heat of the night,
to melt in the heat of day’s disputes?
My heart is a warrior’s heart,
I make no apologies for this.
Will you forsake the beauty of the rose,
for fear of the thorns that embrace it?
My soul is a young soul: ungentle and fierce!
Its burdens are beauty and truth.
I promise you no life of tranquility,
but a life lived best to the full!
Can you say to the wild beast: be still and be tamed?
Or the bird, forget dreams of flight?
Neither can you stay the tide of one’s passions–
Death is dearer than a life of lies.
Come then, my Love–
Let’s drink of life till we’re drunk!
Be timid no more, but bold and brave.
Let’s carve our hearts on the face of the earth!

Poet’s Notes: October is my birthday month; thus, forgive me the indulgence of celebrating my self. If I were to be asked which among my poems best describes me, I’d say it’s above poem. Need I say more? (Copyright © 2014 by Maria Victoria A. Grageda- Smith).
