THE MORTON ARBORETUM WELCOMES BACK THE GLASS PUMPKIN PATCH

Swirls of brilliant colors and shapes will swim in gleaming glass orbs, capturing autumn’s boundless beauty as the fifth-annual Glass Pumpkin Patch event returns to The Morton Arboretum, October 14-18. Visitors are invited to explore a collection of more than 4,000 one-ofa- kind hand-blown glass pieces for sale during this popular event. Returning in 2015 is the “Farmer’s Market,” featuring blown-glass acorns and leaves as well as a bounty of hand-crafted glass fruits and vegetables.

During the event, visitors can take in free daily demonstrations by noted glassblowers. Artists will explain the delicate process of turning bits of glass into beautiful finished pieces, illustrating the steps and talking over the tools of the trade.

“Visitors to this year’s Glass Pumpkin Patch will find more one-of-a-kind pieces than ever before, including amazing glass-blown works of art from many Illinois-based artists,” said Jacque Fucilla, manager of The Arboretum Store. “Additionally, our free glassblowing demonstrations offer amazing insight into how these pieces are crafted.”

More than 20 artists from throughout the country will showcase their art and participate in the 2015 Glass Pumpkin Patch, including nine from the Chicago area. Leading the event is glassblower Shannon Jane Morgan of Girl Glass Studio in Sacramento, California. Morgan is largely self-taught and has earned a reputation for her vividly colored pumpkins as well as other handcrafted pieces such as goblets, ornaments, bowls, and vases.
