Constance Shay Hadley – Friend of the Filipino – Nursing

constance shay hadleyConstance Shay-Hadley received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. She also received a Master of Science Degree from DePaul University in Chicago. She has held a variety of administrative, education, and clinical roles within her career.
Her management experiences include Vice President of Patient Care Services, Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Nursing, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Manager, and Head Nurse. She has worked within several hospital systems/medical centers including Northwestern Memorial, NorthShore University Health, Presence (Provena and Franciscan), University of Chicago, Rush Presbyterian, Norwegian American, Thorek, and Columbus Hospital.
She currently is a Director of several areas at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago. She has been an adjunct faculty member at several Chicago nursing programs including St. Xavier University, Barat College, Northwestern Memorial University, and North Park University. She has held several regional interim management roles in California, Michigan, and Maryland within premier hospital systems such as Johns Hopkins. She has had responsibilities for many hospital departments including Pharmacy, Radiology, Cardiology, Risk Management, Performance Improvement, Ambulatory Outpatient Facilities, Case Management, Rehabilitation Services, Respiratory Therapy, Laboratory, Dietary, and Environmental Services.
She has received nominations for the Management Award while at Sparrow Hospital in Michigan, the Award for Nursing Excellence in a Leadership Role while at University Chicago Hospital in Chicago, and the Spectrum Award for Leadership. She also attained the Student Leadership Award at University of Illinois College of Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and various nursing organizations.
As a Vice President of Patient Care Services, she sponsored many nurses from the Philippines who have succeeded professionally in various Chicago hospitals. Throughout her career, she has focused on patient and staff satisfaction and development of a unique and empowering leadership philosophy.
On a personal note, she feels especially “close” to the Philippine people and culture as her father served as a young Marine in the Philippines during World War II.
She has served as a mentor and role model to many Filipino nurses and other medical practitioners she has worked with.
