Rosalyn Aranas, M.D. Excellence in Medicine

aranasROSALYN ARANAS MD Dr. Rosalyn Aranas is a wife, mother, physician, business owner, political activist, and a beginner karate student. Dr. Aranas is married to her husband of 15 years, Martin Aranas, and both have a 7 year old son, Julian. Dr. Aranas is a board certified neurologist in the State of Illinois by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She also has completed a dual fellowship-training and holds board certifications in the neurological subspecialties of Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Aranas has been in practice since 2009. She specializes in the diagnoses and treatment of neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, migraines, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, concussion, and ALS, and more. She owns her own neurology private practice, Neurology & Sleep Clinics of Chicago, S.C. located in Schaumburg, IL. She is a medical staff at the Alexian Brothers Health System and Northwest Community Hospital in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Aranas briefly worked as a medical-oncology nurse. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and minor in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. She then completed her medical degree from Rush University and was awarded by the American Academy of Neurology, the 2005 Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Clinical Neurology. This prestigious recognition and award is given each year to one graduating medical student in each US medical school who has demonstrated outstanding clinical knowledge and acumen in the field of neurology, nominated by faculty and residents. During her neurology residency, she conducted clinical research and published an original article in the Journal of Neurocritical Care (June 2009, Volume 10, Issue 3, pp 306-312) entitled Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome Associated with Hemorrhage. Dr. Aranas presented her clinical research to the World Stroke Congress in Vienna, Austria in 2008. After completing her neurology residency, she pursued and completed a formal fellowship training in Sleep Disorders Medicine from Rush University Sleep Disorders Center. She trained with a multi-disciplinary team of sleep medicine specialists which included neurologists, pulmonologists, psychologists, and insomnia specialists, who provided her a well-rounded clinical knowledge and background in the field of sleep medicine. Dr. Aranas diagnoses and treats various sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Narcolepsy, Hypersomnia, Restless Legs Syndrome, Circadian Rhythm Disorders, REM behavioral disorders, and Insomnia. Dr. Aranas then pursued and completed a formal fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology from Rush University Medical Center. She gained extensive training and experience in the clinical diagnoses and treatment of neuromuscular diseases and epilepsy. She performs and interprets Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Study (EMG/NCV) which is used to diagnose various neuromuscular conditions. She also performs and interprets routine and ambulatory Electroencephalography (EEG) to diagnose seizure disorders and epilepsy. Moreover, Dr. Aranas is a graduate of Kiffin-Penry Neurology Resident Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and Advanced Epilepsy Mini-Fellowship Program. She is certified in programming Vagal Nerve Stimulator for intractable epilepsy. Dr. Aranas is a strong advocate for her patients and the field of neurology. She is passionate about providing excellent, unparalleled, and compassionate care for all her patients. In fact, Dr. Aranas was selected by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) as one of the 2014 Palatucci Leadership Advocate, a highly selective process that annually identifies and selects 33 neurologists worldwide, who exhibit strong leadership potential, passion for neurology, and a strong desire to improve the quality of the US health care system. This afforded her training in leadership skills, introduction to health care policies and legislation, and utilizing social media in exerting influence and getting messages across. Dr. Aranas took her involvement in US healthcare policy and legislation to the next level by joining her neurology colleagues in Neurology on the Hill, where she lobbied in Capitol Hill, Washington DC to advocate for health policies that support patients suffering from neurological conditions. Dr. Aranas met with, discussed, and educated our US legislators in Capitol Hill on the pressing issues facing neurological patients and neurologists. Within the local community, Dr. Aranas continued her leadership efforts by periodically visiting and communicating with the office of the 8th IL District Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth to maintain open channels and establish grass roots. She represented American Academy of Neurology in a table discussion event held by IL Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth in the local IL 8th district consisting of 12 physicians from different medical specialties. Dr. Aranas stands by the fundamental life principles such as “knowledge is power” and “sky is the limit.” She plans to enroll to the part-time Master’s Degree in Business Administration Program at the Kellog School of Business of Northwestern University.
