Easter 2024 For All People

Easter is a Christian festival or holiday which marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For many Christians, Easter is a celebration of the triumph of life over death, when Jesus returned from the dead after being killed.

Easter is the beginning of the best that God has prepared for human beings. Like Jesus, we can be raised from death and we can live with him in paradise forever. We celebrate Easter because it reminds us that God has defeated death. In Jesus God has opened the door to a beautiful future life in eternity.

Known as Holy Week, the week before Easter is a time of remembering the historical events that took place in Jerusalem and set the stage for the birth of Christianity. Christians believe that it is the holiest day in the year.

Many Christians observe a period of fasting and confessing their sins in the 40 days leading up to the holiday. This time is known as Lent and comes from an old English word meaning “spring.”

The Friday before Easter Sunday is traditionally a day of fasting and penance because it is the day Christians believe Jesus Christ was crucified. Some congregations have processions. Some churches hold vigils the night before Easter to greet the new day at sunrise and reflect on the meaning of resurrection.

It is a festival celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, which can vary between late March and mid-April. Easter marks the end of Holy Week, a week of religious commemoration that begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Holy Saturday.

The importance of Celebrating Easter is remembering the Reality of Sin. The depth of our sin and the consequences for sin are serious, the Grace and Mercy of God, and the Power of His Resurrection.

Attending church services on Easter Sunday is a tradition to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.: Easter egg hunts are a popular modern tradition, especially for children after the church service. Eggs are hidden around a designated area, and children search for them. Eggs have been seen as ancient symbol of fertility, while springtime is considered to bring new life and rebirth.

There is nothing significant about Easter Bunnies. Bunnies, eggs, Easter gifts and fluffy, yellow chicks in gardening hats all stem from pagan roots. They were incorporated into the celebration of Easter separately from the Christian tradition of honoring the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

With Lent officially over, families and friends gather in their homes and churches for an Easter meal.

On Easter, Christians engage in a variety of practices that help them to live according to their faith. These include private and public worship, works of charity and, for some, pilgrimage to holy sites.
