CONSUL GENERAL CALONGE CALLS ON CONGRESSMAN KRISHNAMOORTHI

Consul General Generoso D.G. Calonge called on Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi at his district office in the Village of Schaumburg last Friday to personally congratulate him on his election for the first time into the U.S. Congress representing the 8th congressional district of Illinois.

The two officials engaged in a friendly discussion of the status of the 70-year-old US-Philippines diplomatic relations. They also agreed on the importance of role of the Filipino American community and expanding people-to-people ties to promote mutually beneficial commercial and investment relations.

Per the 2010 US Census Survey, the highly urbanized 8th congressional district, which includes all or parts of Carol Stream, Elgin, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Streamwood, among other towns, has a population of around 14,000 Filipino Americans.

Consul General Calonge, who has made the acquaintance of Congressman Raja, a son of immigrant parents from India, in various Asian American and Pacific Islander community gatherings, also invited the lawmaker to join the bipartisan US-Philippines Friendship Caucus, which will be re-launched in the 115th U.S. Congress with Representatives Bobby Scott (D-VA-3) and Steve Chabot (R-OH-1) as co-chairs.
