From Hospital to Home

During my two-and-a-half months stay in the hospital, I went through several hospital departments for my health problems. First, the emergency room, a unique department within the health care system, bridging the worlds of outpatient and inpatient care. The ER is a pivotal arena for the provision of acute care system for patients that need immediate care, like myself. At the peak of the flu epidemic, like in my case, the ER was very crowded with sick people. It was quite an experience as a beginning of my hospital tour as a sick patient.

Admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is often a brief but extremely important hospital experience for most people, and one that affects everyone in different ways. The ICU atmosphere is very friendly, quiet and relaxed. The confidence in doctors, nurses, and aides is good. The ICU nurses always meet the needs of the critically-ill patients and their families.

My regular ward experience was also good, staffed mostly of Filipino nurses with a lot of nursing experiences. I am so proud of our kababayan nurses for doing excellent work in their chosen healthcare profession. The thought of getting out of ICU to regular ward was so rewarding.

The Rehab at the Resurrection Life Center is a step away from going home, but it’s where I spent more weeks, in making sure that my health is rehabilitated on my road to recovery.

At the Life Center Rehab, I found out that the Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physical Therapists (PTs), revolve around threecare elements…ethical behavior, diversity or individual differences and critical thinking.

I experienced rigorous coursework and real-world experiences, focused on creating positive social change among patients, all led by experts in the field. I also observed these experts provide opportunities to develop professional counseling and working with patients with disabilities.

I was very happy to be a part of the hospital scenario as a patient with major senior ailments. My recovery was speeded up by these experts dedicated to healing patients from all walks of life.

Now that I have been back home for complete recuperation, the hospital’s healing arms continue through the visiting nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and my personal visits to my doctor specialists.

Thanks much to the Resurrection Hospital’s superb expertise and out-of-this-world care. Most importantly, to the loving care I am now getting from my “Irog,” who now turns out to be my in-house nurse and caregiver.
