Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines bags the Miss Universe 2015 Crown

cm3aLas Vegas: Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines bags the Miss Universe 2015 pageant held at Las Vegas Planet Hollywood. The final to the world’s most beauty pageants ended up shocking the viewers as the host read out the wrong names by announcing Miss Columbia as the winner. However, Miss Columbia was demoted to being the first runner-up and Miss Philippines being the official winner.

Colombia contestant Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo was already wearing the crown as this year’s Miss Universe winner when host Steve Harvey returned to apologize.

Harvey says it was his mistake and that he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named contestant Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach this year’s winner and Colombia the first runner-up.

A mystified Wurtzbach appeared stunned as she walked to the front of the stage alongside the crown-wearing Arevalo before last year’s Miss Universe from Colombia removed the crown and placed it on Wurtzbach’s head instead.

According to reports, there are a lot of talks by fans and pageant enthusiasts on who Paulina Vega from Colombia, Miss Universe 2014, will hand over her throne, and these two countries are always coming up on everyone’s prediction lists.

cm3bMiss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, is pressured to win this year’s crown to make history, which is to have a back-to-back win for her country. The website described the 21-year-old beauty as “elegant” and “beautiful,” and she has delivered well during the preliminary competition of the pageant.

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, tried three times to win the Miss Universe Philippines title, and it was only this year that she managed to clinch the crown, according to Philippine Star.

Miss USA Olivia Jordan as Miss Oklahoma won the second runner- up place.

When asked how it was trying three times to win her national pageant and failing the first two times, the 26-year-old half-Filipina, half German beauty said, “Absolutely no regrets. Finally guys, and of course most importantly, I hope I inspired you. Never give up on your dreams and believe that dreams do come true!”

This year is the first year that WME/IMG has managed the pageant ever since the company bought the Miss Universe pageant from Donald Trump. Another first that happened this year was the live online voting during the Miss Universe telecast. Fans can vote who they want to win, and the candidate with the most number of votes will automatically join the semifinals.
