New Year’s Resolutions: Make It Or Break It?

When we start the New Year, the word “RESOLUTION” is the most popular single word that comes to many mouths. Every year would be a bit different from previous years’ resolutions and the formula to follow through might differ depending on the person’s seriousness or strength of pursuit of goals.

This year 2024, the number one resolution that takes the chart is: “Planning to save more money,” where in previous years the vows to exercise more, eat healthier and lose weight had come in top positions, now the financial goal has leapfrogged them to become the most commonly cited resolution this year.

A resolution is a promise to yourself, and it’s something that’s usually more open-ended than a specific goal. Making a resolution usually entails altering some aspect of your life, such as eating healthier, focusing on loved ones more, or managing your finances better. New Year’s resolutions allow for you to reflect and refocus. Resolutions can provide clarity for goals – Writing out a list of goals provides you with direction. They allow you to plan your course for the future.

As we look at new year as new hope, new dreams, new goas, new aspirations in life or an improvement for the better of the the past years’ life. Why are New Year resolutions important? “The New Year offers a blank slate — an opportunity to get things right. When we set New Year’s resolutions, we are utilizing a very important concept called self-efficacy, which means that by virtue of aspiring to a goal and following through on it, “I have a sense of control over what’s happening in my life.”

People often view resolutions as short-term goals to be achieved. So if they don’t quit that bad habit or lose that weight quickly, they become demotivated and quit trying. Then comes the “Quitters Day, “the notorious January day when resolutions tend to lose their effectiveness. (1) Focus on a passion, not the way you look, as new year brings new life to your passion; (2) Work out to feel good, not be thinner; (3) Stop gossiping, instead spread positivty; (4) Give one compliment a day. to make that person a whole lot better; (6) Go a whole day without checking your email or doting on Facebook, it can wait until tomorrow; (7) Do random acts of kindness, and it costs you nothing; (8) Read a book a month, it can reduce stress, and it can improve your memory and concentration; (8) Go some place you’ve never been – Step outside of your comfort zone and do something daring. It’s good for the soul and forces you to learn new things; (9) Clear out the clutter – Make 2024 the year of organization and cleanliness’ (10) Turn off your phone one night a week -You’re sleeping anyway. You don’t need it.
